| Food and Territories - ALTER 2006
Baeza (Jaen), Spain 18-21 October 2006
Intense structural changes affecting rural areas has lead to a deep questioning of rural societies’ evolutionary processes and their link to local agro-food systems (LAFS). Within this complex scenario, many themes are emerging, including those related to multilateral trade relationships, trade protectionism, public-private economic synergies, sustainable development, food security, and poverty eradication.
Concurrently, research arising within the social, agricultural, environmental and regional sciences is reconsidering interactions between men, agricultural products and territories that can hopefully lead towards a much needed re-equilibrium between society, food and the environment.
The LAFS (local agro-food systems) network is an interdisciplinary and international network comprised of academics, researchers, development agents and institutions from numerous European, American and southern Mediterranean countries.
Its goal is to establish a platform for scientific exchange that encourages the application of economic, territorial, technological and rural development approaches that can generate, validate and provide feedback to the creation of knowledge and methodologies related to the study of local agri-food production systems.
