Port of Entry, a bilingual environmental business network for the Americas, has been selected together with other seven projects for the TEN support program 2003. TEN (Technology Empowerment Network) use its best endeavours on behalf of selected projects to provide those projects with exposure to TEN Members and to other decision-makers worldwide, who then cooperate with work, contacts and info. TEN is a global network of organizations and individuals whose purpose is to identify, support and empower projects that contribute to improving the state of the world.
TEN is an initiative of the Technology Pioneers. The Technology Pioneers is a World Economic Forum Community of the most innovative new technology companies. In addition to excelling in their businesses, The Technology Pioneers are committed to enhancing social progress through technological innovation. They share a vision of a world where technology is used to improve human conditions.
TEN has a special interest in projects, for whom information technology plays a central role in achieving their objectives. Both for-profit businesses and not-for-profit organizations are eligible for nomination. Additionally, to be considered by TEN a nominee must be in existence with proven, tangible results being produced by the nominee’s work. Nominees are evaluated on the following criteria:
- Innovation:
The degree to which the nominee represents a truly original innovation; a breakthrough in the thinking or the application of information technology to a problem. Something with which there are possibly parallels, but none similar.
- Results:
The work has produced practical, demonstrable and measurable results. The work must have had real impact on the global public interest. TEN focuses on outcomes that have been achieved and not just innovation for the sake of innovation.
- Global Implications/Ability to Replicate:
The work should have global implications even if currently it only has local impact. For example, the nominee’s work could be replicated by other organizations throughout the world.
- Sustainability:
The project’s business model is sustainable or could be made sustainable with the assistance of the TEN.
- Tech Pioneers Can Help:
TEN and the Technology Pioneer community must be able to make a significant and measurable contribution to the increased impact of the selected project.
Port of Entry's executives are proud to have been awarded this opportunity to advance their goals. Port of Entry will serve the needs of the environmental industry in many dimensions: a) as a publisher of industry news and current affairs and technology articles; b) as a stakeholder directory; c) as an aggregator of supplier catalogues; d) as a electronic publisher and distributor; e) as a recruitment service; f) as a database of RFPs and RFQs; g) as a transactional site for environmental equipment and products.
